|Tata BlueScope Steel is an equal joint venture between Tata Steel and BlueScope Steel, Australia. The company has 6 state-of-the art manufacturing facilities in Pune, Jamshedpur, Chennai and Bhiwadi and one in Sri Lanka.
The company’s Coated Steel manufacturing plant in Jamshedpur has been certified by SGS for ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001: 2004 & OHSAS 18001: 2007 certifications. Also its manufacturing unit in Hinjewadi, Pune has been awarded an ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications by M/s. UL MSS India.
An ISO 14001:2004 certification is an international standard for Environment Management Systems & OHSAS 18001:2007 is for the Occupational Health & Safety Management System. It specifies requirements for establishing safety & environmental policy, assessing hazards/ aspects and its impacts on facilities, people & environment. It also requires setting measurable targets and implementing the same through improvement programs, ensuring all legal compliances and conducting internal audits at regular interval to ensure the effectiveness of systems. This is followed by Management Review by top management for achieving continual improvement in the HSE systems.
These certifications are an achievement for Tata BlueScope Steel. The as the process of implementation of Environment Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems were initiated just five months before the ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications and the company is successful in acquiring the two certificates together in a record time.
